#50PreciousWords is a creation of the amazing Vivian Kirkfield. The challenge is to write a story appropriate for kids, 12 and under, with a beginning, middle, and end, in 50 words or less! Below is my entry for this year. Read all the amazing entries here (and be wow’d by how many different stories can be created in so few words!!)
Vivian has also found a way to make this contest benefit even more people (of course she has!) by introducing the 50 Precious Words Literary Incentive which includes buying a book of your choice from independently owned Toadstool Bookstore (just make sure to specify that the purchase is for #50PreciousWords upon checkout) Books will be donated to local schools! Doesn’t get much better than that! I have so many talented friends that I’ll be buying a couple books to donate this year!
AFTER THE DARKNESS
By Nicole Loos Miller
(50 words)
In the dark
The caterpillar remembers
sunshine.
And the delicious
crunch of leaves
But now,
Everything is squished
Too tight
When she
Can barely
Breathe;
Cannot take
Anymore
She pushes,
Making her escape
Into the sun
And discovers
She is more
Than she was
And the world
Has been waiting
